West Asheville is an amazing community full of independent and creative businesses, located a mere five minutes drive from downtown, right across the French Broad River. West Asheville was originally a separate town, incorporated in 1889 and annexed into the City of Asheville in 1917. This neighborhood developed along Haywood Road, which predates the Patton Avenue bridge and I40, and once served as the main western thoroughfare into Haywood County and further west toward the Smoky Mountain National Park.
Our Center is located on Haywood Road in the Bledsoe Building, a two story red brick construction from 1924, built during the height of West Asheville's commercial growth. This landmark building, located in the heart of the neighborhood, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is just one of the many charming architectural examples from this era. Even today West Asheville remains a distinct community within the City, with its own identity and residential neighborhoods. Below is a listing of some of the many independent businesses in West Asheville. Please take a moment to explore their websites and learn more about our wonderful neighborhood.
