Acupuncture for Exhaustion
Exhaustion is Usually Due to Depletion
In Chinese medicine the most common cause of exhaustion is depletion, usually the result of a excess amounts of stress, whether it be emotional stress and/or physical stress, like in jobs that require long hours or a lot of physical exertion. This stress leads to adrenal fatigue, or what we call "kidney deficiency." The adrenal glands are physically attached to the kidneys and, in Chinese medicine, are considered to be one and the same. These glands are responsible for secreting many different hormones, including cortisol and adrenaline, both of which are released in response to stress. Excessive amounts of stress, especially over time, exhausts and depletes the adrenal glands.
Acupuncture Can Replenish Energy Reserves
There are many acupuncture points that are helpful for building back up your energy reserves. Some of these points are located in the lower back, corresponding to the anatomical area in which the kidneys and adrenal glands are located. Others are on the acupuncture channel that passes through these organs, which runs from the bottom of the feet, up the legs, over the abdomen, and up to the chest.
Chinese Herbs Can be Helpful as Well
Taking herbs can enhance the effects of your acupuncture treatments, helping to address symptoms from the inside out. If you are interested in trying some Chinese herbs they are available in a convenient pill form and are included with your session at no extra charge. Traditional Chinese herbal formulas are excellent for replenishing energy reserves and work best when taken over a period of time, slowly building your system up so that the effects are long lasting. Because these tonic formulas boost the kidneys and adrenals they have beneficial side effects like improving urinary function and reducing lower back pain. One of the most famous tonics for the adrenals is walnut. Please click here to learn more about the herbs that I carry.
