Acupuncture for Infertility
Infertility is Usually Categorized as a Condition of Deficiency
Most women who come in for infertility show signs of depletion such as low energy, exhaustion, low metabolism, irregular cycles, or short periods. Often they have become depleted due to a combination of stress and overwork, though age can also play a part. Basically, when we are depleted, it is very difficult to conceive because there simply isn’t enough extra energy or substance available to create or nourish another human being. In Chinese medicine the main treatment principle in these cases is to “tonify,“ to build up energy and substance, so that conception and full-term pregnancy can occur.
Acupuncture Can Regulate Your Cycle and Promote Conception
Because acupuncture can normalize and improve the functioning of your internal organs and systems, it is very effective for infertility, but with fewer side effects when compared to conventional treatments. It can also be used alongside conventional treatments, like IVF, to improve the rate of success of these types of medical procedures. Some of the most useful acupuncture points for infertility are located on the Ren Mai channel which begins in the uterus and travels up the midline. This is the “Conception Vessel” and it is helpful in menstrual and reproductive conditions, and it assists in conception.
Chinese Herbs Can be Helpful as Well
Taking herbs can enhance the effects of your acupuncture treatments, helping to address symptoms from the inside out. If you are interested in trying some Chinese herbs they are available in a convenient pill form and are included with your session at no extra charge. I carry many different herbal formulas that can normalize cycles and replenish depleted energy reserves. Some formulas are also nourishing, giving your body the raw materials it needs to build up blood again, addressing conditions like scanty menstruation or amenorrhea so that you can nourish a baby. One of the chief herbs that is used to build blood is shu di huang (Chinese foxglove). Please click here to learn more about the herbs that I carry.
