The Functions of Chi
Chi is an ancient daoist concept that refers to the primary unifying force that forms, connects, and governs the interplay of everything in existence. Chi is the power behind everything that makes things go, move, and transform. It travels within our bodies along established pathways called channels or meridians to all areas and passes through every internal organ. Acupuncture points are locations on these channels where the chi comes closest to the surface and can be accessed with specialized acupuncture needles. The theory of chi is very similar to the theory of energy as it is understood in physics; everything is a different form of chi and chi can neither be created nor destroyed, only transferred or converted to another form. For us it is very important to keep our chi flowing by exercise and stretching, and to replenish it with things like rest and nourishing foods.
